The People of Dachau and the Concentration Camp
The Bavarian Ministry of War erected in 1915 the Royal Gunpowder & Ammunition
Plant in Würmmüllerhölzl, about 5 km away from the then market town of Dachau.
In those days Dachau had a population of about 5500 people. After World War I
the building was without use for a long time, until the National Socialists set
up the Dachau Concentration Camp on site in 1933, in use until April 1945. These
12 years have shaped to this day the image of Dachau in the world. The resulting
questions are not only of interest to the people of Dachau:
The Gunpowder & Ammunition Plant Dachau 1915
- How was the relationship between town and camp during the Third Reich?
- Which links existed between town and the camp?
- What could the population then find out about the concentration camp?
- How has Dachau dealt and does Dachau deal with this part of its past
since 1945?
